Conference Grants

The Canadian Journal of Philosophy provides financial support for conferences held in Canada.


Funding Levels

The Canadian Journal of Philosophy Conference Grants provide funding of up to:

  • $1,500 for one-day conferences
  • $1,500 for graduate and undergraduate conferences
  • $4,000 for major international conferences
  • $2,000 for other sorts of conferences



The CJP Conference Grants are open to all philosophers employed in Canada.

Applications to fund undergraduate and graduate conferences should be sponsored by a faculty member.

It is expected that the conference will receive some funding from departmental and university sources.

The conference must be free and open to the public.

Conferences in any area of philosophy are eligible for funding.

It is expected that conference organisers will pay attention to gender and ethnic diversity, as appropriate, when organising their event.


Application Procedures

The CJP anticipates providing up to $10,000 each year in total funding.

Applications are due November 1st. (Applications received after that due date will not be considered.) Decisions will be announced within one month.

Applications must include a description of the proposed conference, including names of invited or confi rmed participants and proposed dates and location (maximum one page) and a detailed budget listing any matching funds secured or applied for (maximum one page.)

To receive funding, successful applicants must submit receipts along with the CJP Conference Grants Report Form.
